Regular Season Round 7: Rytas - Unics 81-87

There was no surprise in Vilnius where 4th placed Lithuanian Rytas (3-4) were defeated by second ranked Russian Unics Kazan (6-1) 87-81 on Tuesday. The guests trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 52-38 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Unics Kazan made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Errick McCollum (185-88, college: Goshen) fired 26 points (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. Point guard Pierria Henry (193-93, college: Charlotte) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Unics Kazan's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. DJ Seeley (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) produced 19 points and 6 assists and swingman Dominique Sutton (198-86, college: N.C.Central) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Rytas players scored in double figures. Unics Kazan have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of Group D leader, which they share with Unicaja. Loser Rytas keep the fourth place with four games lost. Unics Kazan will face bottom-ranked Fiat TO (#6) in Torino in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Rytas will play on the road against Deutsche Bank Skyliners in Frankfurt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
