Regular Season Round 6: Gernika - Uniao Sportiva 84-66

There was no surprise when 4th ranked Portuguese Uniao Sportiva (1-5) was defeated on the road by second ranked Spanish Gernika (3-3) 84-66 on Thursday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Gernika's pressure prevailed and they won that period 27-12 extending their advantage to 18 points. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Blake Dietrick (178-93, college: Princeton, agency: LBM Management) who scored 22 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Canadian-British guard Rachael Vanderwal (175-83, college: Boston U.) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Gernika players scored in double figures. Gernika's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Mali center Kankou Coulibaly (185-90) who recorded 25 points and 5 rebounds and Brazilian forward Raphaella Monteiro (181-95) added 16 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Gernika maintains second position in Group F with 3-3 record having just nine point less than leader Arka Gdynia, which they share with Sint Katelijne and Landes. Defending Portuguese champion Uniao Sportiva stay at the bottom place with five games lost.
