There was a surprise result when fifth ranked German EWE Baskets (1-3) beat top-ranked Spanish Unicaja Malaga (3-1) in Oldenburg 91-78 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-78. Quite impressive performance for Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Braydon Hobbs (196-89, college: Bellarmine) contributed with 18 points for the winners. American guard Josh Adams (188-93, college: Wyoming) replied with 14 points and Canadian-Nigerian forward Melvin Ejim (201-91, college: Iowa St.) added 8 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Unicaja Malaga. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. EWE Baskets maintains fifth position in Group D with 1-3 record. Loser Unicaja Malaga still keeps top place with one game lost. EWE Baskets will face bottom-ranked Buducnost (#6) in Podgorica in the next round. Unicaja Malaga will play at home against Trento (#4) and hope to win that game.
