Regular Season Round 5: Buducnost - EWE Baskets 83-85

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Montenegrin Buducnost's (0-5) home loss to fifth ranked German EWE Baskets (2-3) 83-85 on Wednesday. Buducnost trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 23-14 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 83-85 at the end of the game. It was a great shooting night for EWE Baskets especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and American swingman Rickey Paulding (196-82, college: Missouri) chipped in 21 points. Four EWE Baskets players scored in double figures. American guard Justin Cobbs (191-91, college: California, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 17 points and 8 assists and the other American import forward Hassan Martin (201-95, college: URI) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Buducnost's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. EWE Baskets moved-up to fourth place in Group D, which they share with Trento. Defending Montenegrin champion Buducnost still closes the standings with five games lost. EWE Baskets will face higher ranked Asseco Arka (#3) in Gdynia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Buducnost will play at home against the league's leader Unicaja Malaga and hopes to get finally their first victory.
