Regular Season Round 7: Unicaja - Asseco Arka 91-69

There was no surprise when 4th placed Polish Asseco Arka (3-4) was outleveled on the road by first ranked Spanish Unicaja Malaga (6-1) 91-69 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Unicaja Malaga. Asseco Arka was better in third quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Unicaja Malaga dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Asseco Arka's 24 and made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Asseco Arka 40-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Quite impressive performance for Canadian-Nigerian forward Melvin Ejim (201-91, college: Iowa St.) who helped to win the game recording 6 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. French swingman Axel Toupane (197-92) contributed with 13 points for the winners. American forward Devonte Upson (206-93, college: SE Louisiana) answered with 15 points and point guard Krzysztof Szubarga (178-84) added 4 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Asseco Arka. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga maintains first place in Group D with 6-1 record. Loser Asseco Arka keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Unicaja Malaga will face league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Asseco Arka will play at home against Buducnost and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
