Regular Season Round 8: Darussafaka - Joventut 92-86

Everything could happen in Istanbul at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Turkish Darussafaka and second-ranked Spanish Joventut had identical 4-3 record. This time Darussafaka used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Badalona 92-86 on Wednesday night. It was a key game for the top position in Group C. Joventut trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 32-27 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 86-92 at the end of the game. Darussafaka made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Joventut turnovers and outrebounded them 41-28 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Joventut was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Puerto Rican guard Gary Browne (185-93, college: WVU) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and point guard Kartal Ozmizrak (189-95, agency: BeoBasket) who added 18 points and 4 assists during the contest. Four Darussafaka players scored in double figures. Darussafaka's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Slovenian guard Klemen Prepelic (191-92) responded with 30 points and 4 assists and North Macedonian point guard Nenad Dimitrijevic (186-98) scored 13 points and 7 assists. Darussafaka (5-3) keeps a position of Group C leader, which they share with Unics. Loser Joventut dropped to the third place with four games lost. Darussafaka will face Brescia (#4) at home in the next round. Joventut will play against the league's leader Unics Kazan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
