Regular Season Round 9: Rytas - Tofas 99-83

Date: December 10, 2019
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Vilnius where 3rd placed Turkish Tofas (4-5) were defeated by fourth ranked Lithuanian Rytas (4-5) 99-83 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Rytas. Tofas was better in third quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Rytas looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Arnas Butkevicius (197-92) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Mexican guard Francisco Cruz (191-89, college: Wyoming) chipped in 17 points and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Devin Williams (206-94, college: WVU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import Sammy Mejia (199-83, college: DePaul) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Tofas' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Rytas moved-up to third place in Group B, which they share with Tofas and Lokomotiv. Rytas will face league's leader Umana Venezia on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tofas will play against Lokomotiv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
