Regular Season Round 5: Stellazzurra - ratiopharm U18 91-65

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated German ratiopharm U18 (0-1) in Rome on Friday night. Visitors were rolled over by Italian Stellazzurra (1-0) 91-65. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-65. Stellazzurra dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to ratiopharm U18's 32. Stellazzurra forced 23 ratiopharm U18 turnovers and outrebounded them 44-30 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Stellazzurra looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by ratiopharm U18's players. Guard Abramo Canka (199-2) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Montenegrin guard Fedor Zugic (198-3) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Stellazzurra players scored in double figures. Montenegrin guard Aleksa Bulajic (198-2) answered with 16 points and Polish forward Igor Milicic (206-2) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for ratiopharm U18. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Stellazzurra went down to first position due to points difference, which they share with 3 other teams. ratiopharm U18 at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Stellazzurra is looking forward to face CSKA U18 (#4) in Moscow in the next round. ratiopharm U18 will play at home against CSKA U18 and hopes to get finally their first victory.
