Regular Season Round 4: Bursaspor - Gran Canaria 76-94

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Turkish Bursaspor (0-3) was defeated at home by second ranked Spanish Gran Canaria (3-1) 94-76 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. Bursaspor was better in third quarter 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Bursaspor 37-24 including 23 on the defensive glass. Gran Canaria looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Lithuanian John Shurna (204-90, college: Northwestern) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 8 rebounds and Lithuanian guard Tomas Dimsa (196-96) who added 16 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side point guard Omer Ilyasoglu (193-1, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 13 points and 9 assists and center Oguz Savas (213-87) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gran Canaria maintains second position in Group D with 3-1 record behind leader Joventut. Newly promoted Bursaspor still closes the standings with three games lost. Gran Canaria will face league's leader Trento at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bursaspor will play against JSF Nanterre (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
