Regular Season Round 8: Partizan NiS - Unics 89-86

There was a minor upset in Beograd where second-ranked Russian Unics Kazan (5-3) was edged by fourth ranked Serbian Partizan NiS (4-3) 89-86 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-86. Partizan NiS shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 55.2 percentage. The best player for the winners was forward Rade Zagorac (205-95, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Marcus Paige (183-93, college: UNC) chipped in 25 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Partizan NiS's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward John Brown-III (203-92, college: High Point) produced 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import guard Jamar Smith (191-87, college: S.Indiana, agency: Inception Sports) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for the guests. Five Unics Kazan players scored in double figures. Partizan NiS moved-up to third place, which they share with Buducnost and Cedevita Olimpija. Loser Unics Kazan keeps the second position with three games lost. Partizan NiS will face Acibadem (#6) in Istanbul in the next round. Unics Kazan will play at home against JL Bourg (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
