The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Spanish Gran Canaria as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Trento) loss. Gran Canaria defeated 3rd ranked Slovenian Cedevita Olimpija in Las Palmas 90-82. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Cedevita Olimpija. Gran Canaria shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Cedevita Olimpija's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. American power forward Matt Costello (206-93, college: Michigan St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks. Senegalese center Khalifa Diop (211-2) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. American point guard Kendrick Perry (183-92, college: YSU) replied with 25 points and 7 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Jaka Blazic (196-90) added 22 points in the effort for Cedevita Olimpija. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams. Cedevita Olimpija at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Partizan NiS and Buducnost. Cedevita Olimpija will play next round against Promitheas trying to get back on the winning streak. Gran Canaria will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Bursaspor at home.
