Regular Season Round 9: Venezia - Joventut 75-89

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Spanish Joventut (6-2) beat on the road 5th ranked Italian Umana Venezia (2-6) 89-75 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Joventut. Umana Venezia was better in fourth quarter 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Joventut looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Umana Venezia was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-87) who led his team to a victory with 15 points and 4 assists. Guard Ferran Bassas (181-92) contributed with 12 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Joventut players scored in double figures. American point guard Julyan Stone (198-88, college: UTEP) answered with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and Tongan-New Zealand Isaac Fotu (203-93, college: Hawaii) added 20 points in the effort for Umana Venezia. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Joventut maintains first place with 6-2 record. Umana Venezia lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with six games lost. Joventut will face league's second-placed Unics in Kazan in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Umana Venezia will play on the road against Acibadem in Istanbul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
