Regular Season Round 9: Gran Canaria - Bursaspor 89-76

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Turkish Bursaspor (0-7) lost to first ranked Spanish Gran Canaria (7-2) in Las Palmas 76-89 on Wednesday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Gran Canaria's pressure prevailed and they won that period 21-14 extending their advantage to 13 points. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for Nigerian-American Stan Okoye (198-91, college: VMI) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Lithuanian guard Tomas Dimsa (196-96) contributed with 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. Gran Canaria's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Malik Newman (191-97, college: Kansas) answered with 19 points and the other American import guard Xavier Munford (193-92, college: URI) added 15 points in the effort for Bursaspor. Five Bursaspor players scored in double figures. Gran Canaria have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-2 record, which they share with Unicaja and Lokomotiv. Newly promoted Bursaspor still closes the standings with seven games lost. Gran Canaria will face Trento (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Bursaspor will play against JSF Nanterre and hopes to get finally their first victory.
