We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Istanbul where 5th ranked Italian Umana Venezia (2-7) was crushed by sixth ranked Turkish Acibadem (2-8) 108-74 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 11-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 108-74. Acibadem made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Acibadem outrebounded Umana Venezia 41-23 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 65.2 percentage. Acibadem looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. American forward Jamal Jones (203-93, college: Texas A&M, agency: Network Sports International) scored 26 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all five shots) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Thomas Robinson (208-91, college: Kansas, agency: Network Sports International) chipped in 16 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Tongan-New Zealand Isaac Fotu (203-93, college: Hawaii) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and Stefano Tonut (194-93) scored 21 points (made all of his eight free throws). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Acibadem moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Lietkabelis and Brescia. Umana Venezia lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Acibadem will have a break next round. Umana Venezia will play at home against Partizan NiS (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
