Regular Season Round 3: Mersin - Gorzow Wlkp. 106-62

Not a big story in a game when Polish Gorzow Wlkp. (1-2) was outplayed on the road by Turkish Mersin (3-0) 106-62 on Wednesday. Mersin shot 60.6 percent from the field. They also forced 21 Gorzow Wlkp. turnovers and outrebounded them 35-22 including a 27-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Mersin looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for British-American power forward Kristine Anigwe (193-97, college: California) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard Tiffany Hayes (177-89, college: UConn) helped adding 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Mersin players scored in double figures. Mersin's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Bulgarian forward Borislava Hristova (182-96, college: WSU) with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and American forward Stephanie Jones (188-98, college: Maryland) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. Mersin will meet at home Gorizont (#4) in the next round. Gorzow Wlkp. will play against Lublin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
