Regular Season Round 5: Partizan NiS - Lietkabelis 84-77

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Serbian Partizan NiS as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group A. Partizan NiS defeated 7th ranked Lithuanian Lietkabelis in Beograd 84-77. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But Lietkabelis won second period 24-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Partizan NiS dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Lietkabelis' 20. They outrebounded Lietkabelis 36-24 including 23 on the defensive glass. Power forward Alen Smailagic (208-0) nailed a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and American power forward Zach LeDay (202-94, college: Virginia Tech) accounted for 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Partizan NiS players scored in double figures. Forward Vytenis Lipkevicius (195-89) came up with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and swingman Gediminas Orelik (199-90) added 19 points respectively for Lietkabelis in the defeat. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Joventut and Lokomotiv. Lietkabelis at the other side keep the seventh place with three games lost. Lietkabelis will play next round against strong Joventut trying to get back on the winning streak. Partizan NiS will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Metropolitans at Levallois.
