Regular Season Round 9: Valencia - Bursaspor 86-68
Date: January 6, 2022
Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Turkish Bursaspor (3-6) was defeated on the road by third ranked Spanish Valencia (6-3) 86-68 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Valencia. Bursaspor managed to win second period 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Bursaspor to just 7 points in first quarter. Valencia made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Bursaspor 45-24 including a 31-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Valencia looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Cuban Jasiel Rivero (206-93) stepped up and scored 24 points for the winners and Montenegrin center Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 2 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Valencia's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was American Allerik Freeman (190-94, college: NC State, agency: Slash Sports) with 25 points and 5 rebounds and center Egemen Guven (210-96) scored 18 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Valencia maintains third place with 6-3 record behind leader Buducnost, which they share with Lokomotiv and Virtus BO. Loser Bursaspor dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. Valencia will meet Promitheas (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Bursaspor will play against Virtus BO in Bologna and hope to secure a win.
