Regular Season Round 10: Slask - Gran Canaria 79-91
Date: January 11, 2023
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Polish WKS Slask (1-9) lost to first ranked Spanish Gran Canaria (8-2) in Wroclaw 79-91 on Wednesday. Gran Canaria made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Senegalese center Khalifa Diop (215-2002) notched 17 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Argentinian Nicolas Brussino (205-1993) supported him with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Gran Canaria's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) by power forward Aleksander Dziewa (205-1997) did not help to save the game for WKS Slask. American point guard Jeremiah Martin (189-1996, college: Memphis) added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gran Canaria have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-2 record. Defending Polish champion WKS Slask keeps the tenth place with nine games lost. Gran Canaria will meet at home Promitheas (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. WKS Slask will play against Buducnost (#4) in Podgorica and hope to win that game.
