Regular Season Round 14: Lietkabelis - Venezia 87-84

Important game to mention about took place in Panevezys. Seventh ranked Lithuanian Lietkabelis (7-7) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Italian Venezia (7-7) 87-84 in the fight for the fifth place. Lietkabelis made 19-of-21 charity shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Venezia was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Jamel Morris (193-1992, college: Fairmont St.) notched 28 points to lead the effort and Hungarian forward Gyorgy Goloman (211-1996, college: UCLA) supported him with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Even 19 points and 4 steals by American center Mitchell Watt (208-1989, college: Buffalo, agency: Octagon Europe) did not help to save the game for Venezia. His fellow American import Derek Willis (206-1995, college: Kentucky) added 14 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the guests. Four Venezia players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Lietkabelis have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Venezia and Brescia. Lietkabelis will play against Cedevita Ol. (#10) in Ljubljana in the next round where they are favorite. Venezia will play at home against Brescia (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
