Date: March 8, 2023
The most interesting game of round 15 was a derby match between two teams from Italy. Fifth ranked Venezia outleveled visiting Brescia (7-8) 90-64. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Brescia. Venezia dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Brescia's 26 and made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Brescia 39-28 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Venezia looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Brescia's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Venezia made 8 blocks. 26 personal fouls committed by Brescia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American center Mitchell Watt (208-1989, college: Buffalo, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). His fellow American import Derek Willis (206-1995, college: Kentucky) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Amedeo Della Valle (192-1993, college: Ohio St., agency: SLN) who recorded 14 points and 4 assists and American-Italian swingman John Petrucelli (193-1992, college: Molloy) added 12 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Venezia (8-7) moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Brescia at the other side dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with London L. and Bursaspor. Venezia is looking forward to face Bursaspor (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Brescia will play against Lietkabelis and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
