Very expected game when 9th ranked Romanian Cluj Napoca (5-11) was smashed by second ranked Spanish Joventut (11-5) in Badalona 104-81 on Tuesday. Joventut dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Cluj Napoca's 40. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The winners were led by Croatian center Ante Tomic (217-1987, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored that evening 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Pau Ribas (194-1987) supported him with 15 points and 4 assists. Joventut's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Even a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds by center Emanuel Cate (207-1997) did not help to save the game for Cluj Napoca. American swingman Jalen Jones (201-1993, college: Texas A&M) added 16 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Joventut have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-5 record behind leader Gran Canaria, which they share with H.Tel-Aviv and Turk Telekom. Defending Romanian champion Cluj Napoca dropped to the eighth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Hamburg. Joventut will meet Venezia (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Cluj Napoca will play against the league's leader Prometey (#1) and hope to secure a win.
