Regular Season Round 16: Gran Canaria - Turk Telekom 89-79

An interesting game for Spanish Gran Canaria (13-3) which hosted in Las Palmas their biggest opponent Turkish Turk Telekom (11-5). First ranked Gran Canaria managed to get a 10-point victory 89-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Turk Telekom. Gran Canaria shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Turk Telekom was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Lithuanian John Shurna (204-1990, college: Northwestern) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and guard Ferran Bassas (181-1992) who added 15 points during the contest. Gran Canaria's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American guard Jerian Grant (196-1992, college: Notre Dame) responded with 23 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import power forward Tyrique Jones (206-1997, college: Xavier, agency: Pensack Sports) scored 20 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gran Canaria maintains first position with 13-3 record. Turk Telekom at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Joventut and H.Tel-Aviv. Gran Canaria will play against Buducnost (#6) in Podgorica in the next round where they are favorite. Turk Telekom will play on the road against Lions (#7) in London and hopes to get back on the winning track.
