There was no surprise in Barking where 4th ranked Portuguese GDESSA (0-4) was crushed by top-ranked British Lions (4-0) 79-60 on Wednesday. Lions outrebounded GDESSA 42-28 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-British forward Temi Fagbenle (193-1992, college: USC) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) and American-British swingman Karlie Samuelson (183-1995, college: Stanford) who added 19 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Marcia Costa (173-1989) responded with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals (made all of her eight free throws) and American guard Ahlana Smith (175-2000, college: MSU) scored 17 points. GDESSA's coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Lions have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending British champion maintains first position with 4-0 record, which they share with 5 other teams. Defending Portuguese champion GDESSA still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with 7 other teams. Lions will meet at home league's second-placed Castors Braine in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
