San Giovanni used a home court advantage and outscored the opponent from Lisbon 92-58 on Thursday night. San Giovanni outrebounded Benfica 51-22 including a 37-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. San Giovanni looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for Polish guard Anna Makurat (188-2000, college: UConn) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Puerto Rican guard Jazmon Gwathmey (188-1993, college: JMU) helped adding 14 points and 17 rebounds. Four San Giovanni players scored in double figures. San Giovanni's coach felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Swedish forward Evelyn Ovner (180-1993, college: Bridgeport) with 17 points and 5 rebounds and Brazilian forward Raphaella Monteiro (181-1995) scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
