POSTED BY: Eurobasket News
Fenerbahce Tarfin won the SuperCup Women on the floor of EuroCup champions CIMSA CBK Mersin, taking the 15th edition 79-71 at the Servet Tazegul Spor Salonu, despite Mersin leading after the first quarter and winning the last. The reigning EuroLeague Women champions took charge in the second quarter, and the margin never fell below five points again.
Mersin, appearing in the SuperCup for the first time after winning a maiden EuroCup title, had the better of the opening period, leading 21-19, but they scored only 11 points in the second quarter while Fenerbahce scored 19 to lead 38-32 at the interval. A 21-16 third quarter extended it to 59-48. Mersin won the final quarter 23-20, which was not enough to bring them close to a result. Fenerbahce were more efficient and deeper: they shot 53.5 percent from the field (31 of 58) to Mersin's 33.9 (21 of 62), had 23 assists to 15, and their bench outscored Mersin's 34-14. Olcay Cakir-Turgut (182-PG-1993) led them with 16 points off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting, with a game-best +18. Emma Meesseman (192-C-1993, agency: LBM Management) scored 14 points with eight rebounds and seven assists, for the game's highest efficiency rating, 26. Alperi Onar (167-PG-1996) and Leila Lacan (180-PG-2004) each scored 10, and Luisa Geiselsoder added nine points and seven rebounds. Mersin's best work came on the glass and at the line. They took 12 offensive rebounds to Fenerbahce's three, won the rebounding 38-35, and made 22 of 28 free throws. Carla Leite scored 17 points, all but nine of them from the line, where she made all eight attempts, with five assists in 35 minutes. Kennedy Burke (185-G-1997, college: UCLA) added 14, Kariata Diaby (193-C-1995) 12 points and eight rebounds, and Karlie Samuelson (183-G-1995, college: Stanford) 12 with three three-pointers. They made only 7 of 30 shots from beyond the arc, and Alina Iagupova (186-G/F-1992, agency: LBM Management), who took eight rebounds, scored four points on 1-of-12 shooting. The pairing was a second all-Turkish SuperCup meeting in three editions, after Fenerbahce faced Besiktas in 2024 and Villeneuve d'Ascq were the EuroCup side in 2025. Fenerbahce, who also took the 2023 and 2024 editions by 109-52 over ASVEL and 79-63 over Besiktas, now have three titles. |
