France are the new U18 European champions. They toppled Spain in the title game in Matosinhos tonight. Sarah Cisse (187-C-2007) scored 22 points to lead the charge. France recorded a 32-28 halftime lead. les Bleues sank 30 points in the third term to open a comfortable 16-point advantage at the final break. Spain sank 24 points in the fourth term but could not avoid the defeat. Tea Cleante (176-G/F-2006) and Nell Angloma (181-F-2006) provided 16 points each for the champions. Iyana Martin (172-PG-2006) replied with 24 points for Spain.
3-4 Place
Serbia - Israel 72-56
Jovana Popovic scored 28 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 6 assists to lead Serbia past Israel in the consolation final. Israel led by six points after ten minutes. But Serbia used a 44-28 second half run to seal the victory. Gal Raviv (2005) tossed in 16 points for Israel.

5-6 Place
Hungary - Portugal 63-69
Portugal earned the fifth position in Matosinhos. They overcame Hungary in their final game at the championship. Hungary dominated in the first half as they recorded a 42-34 lead. But Portugal limited their opponents to just 21 points in the second half to snatch the win. Ema Karim (174-G-2006) posted 22 points, while Clara Silva (198-C-2006) added 14 points for Portugal. Eszter Ratkai (174-G/F-2006) netted 12 points for Hungary.

7-8 Place
Finland - Belgium 53-68
Belgium registered the victory over Finland to earn the 7th position at the championship. Belgium claimed a 38-31 halftime lead. They held Finland to just 6 points in the fourth frame to race to the win. Pauline Bayart (188-PF-2006) dropped 22 points and collected 13 rebounds for Belgium. Lilli Onnela (182-SF-2006) replied with 12 points for Finland.

9-10 Place
Italy - Latvia 75-60
Italy rallied past Latvia to finish 9th in Matosinhos. The Azzurri jumped off to a 49-33 halftime lead. They protected the advantage throughout the second half and raced to a comfortable win. Emanuela Trozzola (170-G-2006) stepped up with 27 points for Italy. Annija Brence (179-F-2006) posted 14 points for Latvia.
11-12 Place
Poland - Turkey 74-69
Poland earned the 11th place as they held off Turkey. The teams were tied at 41 heading into the second half. Poland and Turkey stayed tied after three quarters of action. But Poland held their opponents to just 11 points in the final term to snatch the win. Lena Brzustowska (173-G-2007) scored 17 points, while Natalia Rutkowska (185-C-2006, agency: SPORTFORUM Agency) added 16 points and 14 rebounds for Poland. Eslem Guler (180-SG-2006) replied with 14 points for Turkey.

13-14 Place
Slovenia - Croatia 57-56
Slovenia avoided elimination as they nipped Croatia for the 13th place. Slovenia opened a 35-21 halftime advantage. Croatia went on a strong comeback rally in the second half but came up short of win at the end. Tjasa Turnsek chipped in 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Maja Uranker (182-PG-2007) added 13 points for Slovenia. Lena Bilic (182-F-2007) responded with 21 points and 10 rebounds for Croatia.

15-16 Place
Luxembourg - Germany 58-76
Germany fired past Luxembourg to earn the 15th place in Portugal. They went on a 22-8 rally in the first period. Germany followed with a 21-7 run in the third term and ran away with the victory. Remi Drantmann (188-C-2006) produced 14 points to lead Germany. Joyce Etute (186-C-2008) answered with 26 points and 20 rebounds for Luxembourg.
