They held Spain to just 17 points after the big break but could not avert the loss. Carla Brito (180-F-2004) delivered 11 points and 7 rebounds for Spain. Nastja Claessens (186-F-2004) dropped 12 points for Belgium.
France - Sweden 94-57
France coasted past Sweden today. les Bleues piled up a 54-27 halftime advantage. They sank 40 points in the second half to coast to the victory. Leila Lacan (174-PG-2004) tossed in 21 points, while Anaelle Dutat (182-SF-2004) had 13 points for France. Saga Eklov (169-G-2004) replied with 12 points for Sweden.
Latvia - Italy 64-74
Italy outscored Latvia to secure the quarterfinal berth. Latvia eked out a 19-18 lead after ten minutes. But the Azzurri went on a 37-29 second half run to snatch the victory. Carlotta Zanardi notched 16 points, while Matilde Villa (172-SG-2004, agency: Players Group) contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the Azzurri. Raina Tomasicka (180-SF-2005) responded with 20 points for Latvia.
Finland - Israel 71-61
Finland knocked down Israel in the Round of 16 clash. Finland dominated throughout the bigger part of the game. They accumulated a 38-28 halftime lead. They extended the lead to as many as 16 points heading into the fourth frame and never looked back en route to the win. Meri Kanerva (171-G-2004) tallied 21 points for Finland. Naama Halevy (170-SG-2004) topscored with 16 points for Israel.
Turkey - Czech Republic 53-83
Czech Republic cruised past Turkey to ensure the next round appearance. Czech Republic established a comfortable 40-19 halftime lead. They unloaded 43 points in the second half to march to the victory. Dominika Paurova (183-F/C-2005) posted 22 points and 9 rebounds for Czech Republic. Deniz Togrut (180-F-2004) answered with 12 points for Turkey.
Greece - Poland 46-69
Poland rallied past Greece en route to the quarterfinal stage in Heraklion. The hosts posted a 16-12 lead ten minutes into the game. But Poland answered with a furious 34-14 rally in the second half to seal the victory. Dominika Ullmann (170-G-2005) notched 18 points, while Emily Kalenik (193-C-2004) added 12 points and 16 rebounds for Poland. Polyxeni Palaska (190-PF-2005) tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds for Greece.
Lithuania - Bosnia 84-40
Lithuania cruised past Bosnia to ensure the quarterfinal berth. Lithuania piled up a 47-21 halftime lead. They held Bosnia to just 19 points in the second half to race to the victory. Juste Jocyte (187-SF-2005) knocked down 15 points, while Rusne Augustinaite (181-F-2004) and Ugne Sirtautaite (188-F-2004) had 11 points each for Lithuania. Danijela Mitrovic (170-G-2004) posted 9 points for Bosnia.
Germany - Hungary 56-55
Germany nipped Hungary in Round of 16. Germany grabbed a 30-27 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 7-point mark at the final intermission. Hungary narrowed the deficit in the fourth quarter but stopped just short of victory at the end. Frieda Buehner (184-F-2004) came up with 22 points and 13 rebounds for Germany. Rebeka Holcz (178-G/F-2004) replied with 9 points for Hungary.
