Overview of Day 2 in Matosinhos

Luxembourg - Finland 63-89
Finland claimed the second straight win in Matosinhos. They stormed past Luxembourg to stay perfect. Finland earned a 41-27 halftime lead. They sank 28 points in the third frame to clear off for good. Lilli Onnela (182-SF-2006) scored 16 points to lead the winners. Joyce Etute (186-C-2008) answered with 15 points and 13 rebounds for Luxembourg.

Croatia - Poland 75-70
Croatia held off Poland to earn the first win in Group D. Croatia jumped to a 44-29 halftime advantage. Poland cut the deficit in the second half but came up short of win at the end. Lena Bilic (182-F-2007) was instrumental in the win with 22 points. Natalia Rutkowska (185-C-2006, agency: SPORTFORUM Agency) tossed in 15 points and collected 11 rebounds for Poland.

Turkey - Spain 63-73
Spain knocked down Turkey to improve at 2-0 record in Group A. They piled up a 33-15 lead. Turkey narrowed the gap in the second half but could not avoid the loss. Awa Fam (192-C-2006) posted 18 points and 17 rebounds for Spain. Tuana Vural (177-SF-2007) and Asya Barnes (180-SF-2007) notched 13 points each for Turkey.

Serbia - Italy 66-68
Italy nipped Serbia to improve at 1-1 record in Group C. Italy accumulated a 47-39 halftime advantage. They extended the margin at 12-point mark heading into the fourth stanza. Serbia held Italy to just 3 points in the final period but could not avert the defeat. Emma Giacchetti (178-F-2007) came up with 24 points for Italy. Angelina Davorija (177-F/G-2007) answered with 18 points for Serbia.

Portugal - Germany 69-55
Portugal toppled Germany for the second straight win at the home championship. The hosts registered a comfortable 38-23 halftime lead and cruised to the victory in the second half. Clara Silva (198-C-2006) came up with 28 points and 7 rebounds for the home side. Johanna Huppertz (185-SF-2006) replied with 16 points for Germany.

Belgium - Hungary 60-55
Belgium toppled Hungary to gain the first win in Matosinhos. Belgium led by a single point at halftime 31-30. Hungary went on a 20-13 run in the third term to surge ahead. But Belgium answered with a 16-5 rally in the fourth term to snatch a key victory. Ella Declercq (184-F-2006) posted 12 points for Belgium. Reka Toman (182-F-2006) netted 14 points for Hungary.

Slovenia - Latvia 62-54
Slovenia toppled Latvia to open win count in Matosinhos. Slovenia eked out a 30-28 halftime lead. They followed with an 18-12 run in the third term to clear off. Maja Uranker (182-PG-2007) finished with 20 points for Slovenia. Anna Liepina (186-C-2007) tossed in 11 points for Latvia.

Israel - France 43-73
France cruised past Israel for the second consecutive win in Group B. Israel led by two points at the first break. But France limited their opponents to just 24 points in the next three quarters and eased to the win. Nell Angioma was responsible for 26 points in the victory. Gal Raviv (2005) answered with 17 points for Israel.
