Regular Season Round 23: Zadar - Cibona 93-88

One of the most interesting games of round 23 was a derby match between two teams from Croatia. Fourteenth ranked Zadar won against visiting Cibona (10-13) 93-88. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Cibona helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Devan Downey (175-87, college: S.Carolina) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 8 assists. His fellow American import forward Brandon Brown (202-81, college: Tulane) contributed with 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Zadar players scored in double figures. Bosnian-Croatian swingman Bojan Bogdanovic (202-89) answered with 27 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and guard Goran Vrbanc (194-84) added 30 points (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) in the effort for Cibona. Cibona's coach Drazen Anzulovic tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Zadar (7-16) moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Crvena Zvezda. Defending Croatian champion Cibona keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Zadar's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Partizan in Beograd and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
