Very predictable result in Tel-Aviv where leader Israeli Maccabi T-A (3-0) beat 9th ranked Croatian Cibona (1-1) 97-81 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Cibona was better in fourth quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Cibona's 30. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Cibona was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Jordan Farmar (188-86, college: UCLA) fired 19 points and 7 assists for the winners. His fellow American import swingman Devin Smith (196-81, college: Virginia) chipped in 19 points. American guard Brian Chase (178-81, college: Virginia Tech) produced 17 points and 6 assists (made all of his eight free throws) and American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Court Side) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Maccabi T-A and four Cibona players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Israeli champion maintains first place with 3-0 record. Loser Cibona dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. Maccabi T-A will have a break next round. Cibona will play at home against Krka (#12) in Novo Mesto.
