Regular Season Round 5: Maccabi T-A - Partizan 78-67

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Serbian Partizan (4-1) in Tel-Aviv on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Israeli Maccabi T-A (5-0) 78-67. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Partizan. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 4-0 record before this meeting. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Partizan managed to win third quarter 22-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi T-A shot 61.2 percent from the field. They also forced 21 Partizan turnovers. American point guard Jordan Farmar (188-86, college: UCLA) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Devin Smith (196-81, college: Virginia) chipped in 12 points. Montenegrin center Nikola Pekovic (210-86, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 23 points and 7 rebounds and forward Vladimir Lucic (202-89, agency: Beo Basket) scored 13 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maccabi T-A have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Israeli champion maintains first place with 5-0 record, which they share with Union Olimpija. Defending Serbian champion Partizan dropped to the third position with one game lost. They share it with Cibona and Cedevita. Maccabi T-A will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Partizan will play at home against Cibona in Zagreb and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
