Regular Season Round 8: Maccabi T-A - Un.Olimpija 67-66

There was a change at the Adriatic League leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 8 took place in Tel-Aviv between two undefeated teams where Israeli Maccabi T-A edged Slovenian Union Olimpija (7-1) 67-66 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Union Olimpija. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Union Olimpija won fourth quarter 21-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Lior Eliyahu (206-85, agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 9 rebounds and American-Israeli forward David Blu (201-80, college: USC) who added 13 points during the contest. American forward Deon Thompson (203-88, college: N.Carolina) responded with 15 points and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman Danny Green (198-87, college: N.Carolina) scored 10 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Union Olimpija players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Maccabi T-A (7-0) have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending Israeli champion (7-0) keeps a position of league leader. Union Olimpija at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They share the position with Cedevita. They were replaced at the leadership position by Maccabi T-A. Union Olimpija will play next round against Cibona trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Maccabi T-A will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Cedevita in Zagreb.
