Regular Season Round 9: Maccabi T-A - Cedevita 96-89

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tel-Aviv. Leader Israeli Maccabi T-A faced 3rd placed Croatian Cedevita. Host Maccabi T-A (8-0) defeated guests from Zagreb (7-2) 96-89. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Cedevita. It looked good early as Cedevita took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi T-A had a 33-18 second period charge getting the lead and Cedevita was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 89-96. Maccabi T-A players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Cedevita helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Guy Pnini (200-83) nailed 26 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side and American point guard Jordan Farmar (188-86, college: UCLA) accounted for 15 points and 13 assists. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. American-Croatian guard Dontaye Draper (180-84, college: Charleston) came up with 28 points and 6 assists and forward Vedran Vukusic (206-82, college: Northwestern) added 9 points and 5 assists respectively for Cedevita in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Maccabi T-A have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending Israeli champion maintains first place with 8-0 record. Cedevita at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. Maccabi T-A's next round opponent will be Zvezda (#13) in Beograd which should be an easy win for them. Cedevita's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Zagreb Cibona.
