Israeli leader Maccabi T-A delivered the tenth victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 13th ranked Slovenian Helios (2-10) 94-56 in Tel-Aviv. The game without a history. Maccabi T-A led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Helios' 14 and had 26 for 35 from the free-throw line, while Helios only scored nine points from the stripe. Maccabi T-A forced 19 Helios turnovers and outrebounded them 38-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi T-A made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a quality performance of Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis (206-85) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 8 rebounds and American center Shawn James (208-83, college: Northeastern, agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) who added 19 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was Bosnian forward Dejan Jeftic (200-89) with 17 points and Croatian forward Drazen Bubnic (207-86) scored 5 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending Israeli champion maintains first position with 10-1 record. Helios lost third consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Zlatorog. Maccabi T-A will meet Radnicki K. (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Helios will play against Cibona (#7) in Zagreb and hope to secure a win.
