Regular Season Round 13: Helios - Cibona 78-76

A very interesting game took place in Domzale. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Croatian Cibona (7-6) to thirteenth ranked Slovenian Helios (3-10) 78-76 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-18. But Cibona won second period 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Helios forced 19 Cibona turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Cibona helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard D.J. Gay (183-89, college: San Diego St.) fired 26 points and 6 steals for the winners. Guard Klemen Prepelic (191-92) chipped in 18 points. Helios' coach Zmagoslav Sagadin allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Davor Kus (191-78, agency: Interperformances) produced 19 points and 5 assists and center Andrija Zizic (207-80, agency: Beo Basket) added 18 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Cibona players scored in double figures. Helios moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Crvena Zvezda. Cibona at the other side dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Helios' next round opponent will be higher ranked HKK Siroki WWin (#9) in Siroki Brijeg and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
