Regular Season Round 13: Partizan - Crvena Zvezda 85-67

One of the most interesting games of round 13 was a derby match between two teams from Serbia. The game took place in Beograd where third ranked Partizan won against visiting Zvezda (3-10) 85-67. It looked good early as Zvezda took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Partizan had a 27-14 second period charge getting the lead and Zvezda was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 67-85. Partizan made 20-of-26 charity shots (76.9 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Partizan especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Zvezda was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Dragan Milosavljevic (198-89) stepped up and scored 23 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winners and forward Vladimir Lucic (202-89, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Four Partizan players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Petar Popovic (211-79) responded with 10 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Omar Thomas (197-82, college: UTEP) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending Serbian champion maintains third place with 9-4 record having just three points less than leader Maccabi T-A, which they share with Buducnost. Zvezda at the other side keeps the twelfth position with ten games lost. They share it with Helios. Partizan will play against KK Zagreb CO (#6) at home in the next round. Zvezda will play against Hemofarm (#11) in Vrsac and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
