Regular Season Round 24: Crvena Zvezda - Cibona 80-67

We should mention about the upset which took place in Beograd, where higher ranked Croatian Cibona (12-12) lost to tenth ranked Serbian Zvezda (11-13) in a road game 67-80 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-67. Zvezda made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game, while Cibona only scored nine points from the stripe. They outrebounded Cibona 39-25 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cibona was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American forward Omar Thomas (197-82, college: UTEP) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Montenegrin power forward Bojan Subotic (206-90) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Court Side) who recorded 13 points and 4 assists and forward Damjan Rudez (206-86) added 12 points respectively. Four Cibona players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Zvezda moved-up to ninth place, which they share with KK Zagreb CO. Loser Cibona dropped to the seventh position with 12 games lost. Zvezda will face league's leader Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
