Regular Season Round 5: Un.Olimpija - Cedevita 71-75

The biggest surprise of round 5 was Croatian guest Cedevita's (4-1) road victory over Slovenian Union Olimpija (#4) 75-71 on Monday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 22-17. But Union Olimpija won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Cedevita won last quarter 21-18. They also forced 20 Union Olimpija turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Miro Bilan (215-89) who scored 20 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). French Mickael Gelabale (201-83, agency: Three Eye Sports) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Australian-New Zealand center Aaron Baynes (208-86, college: Washington St.) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward Dylan Page (204-82, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Cedevita moved-up to second place, which they share with Partizan. Union Olimpija at the other side keeps the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with KK Split and Krka. Cedevita is looking forward to face bottom-ranked KK Zadar (#14) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Union Olimpija will play against the league's leader Igokea (#1) in Aleksandrovac and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
