Regular Season Round 13: Igokea - Cibona 94-88

Everything went according to plan in Aleksandrovac where first ranked Bosnian Igokea (11-2) beat 10th ranked Croatian Cibona (5-8) 94-88 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cibona won third quarter 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Igokea won last quarter 22-17. Cibona was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Croatian guard Sinisa Stemberger (195-79) stepped up and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American guard Clifford Hammonds (191-85, college: Clemson) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American guard D.J. Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Tomislav Zubcic (208-90, agency: Beo Basket) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Igokea have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-2 record. Defending Croatian champion Cibona dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Igokea will face HKK Siroki WWin (#13) in Siroki Brijeg in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Cibona will play on the road against MZT Skopje (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
