Regular Season Round 7: Crvena Zvezda - Split 78-76

Eighth-ranked Croatian Split (3-4) was very close to win a game against leader Serbian Crvena Zvezda (7-0) in Belgrade on Sunday. Crvena Zvezda managed to secure only two-point victory 78-76. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Split. Crvena Zvezda had a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Johnny OBryant-III (204-93, college: LSU, agency: Wasserman) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Marko Simonovic (203-86, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Serbian Marko Lukovic (207-92, agency: BeoBasket) answered with 25 points and 5 rebounds and center Antonio Vrankovic (213-96, college: Duke) added 21 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) in the effort for Split. Four Split players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Crvena Zvezda have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Split at the other side keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Crvena Zvezda are looking forward to face Partizan NiS (#7) in Beograd in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Split will play at home against the league's second-placed Mornar Bar and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
