Regular Season Round 20: Split - Partizan 95-96

Eighth-ranked Croatian Split (8-12) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Serbian Partizan (18-2) on Saturday. The visitors from Beograd managed to secure only one-point victory 96-95. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Split. Partizan shot 60.8 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. Partizan looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Split helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward James Nunnally (201-1990, college: UCSB) saved the victory by scoring 18 points. American-Serbian Kevin Punter (192-1993, college: Tennessee) contributed with 9 points and 10 assists for the winners. Partizan's coach used entire bench in such tough game. Guard Dominik Mavra (195-1994) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and American Shannon Shorter (193-1989, college: N.Texas) added 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Split. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Partizan have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader. Split at the other side dropped to the ninth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Cibona. Partizan's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beograd Crvena Zvezda.
