The USA celebrated the Gold medals at the World University Games. They defeated Germany in double-overtime thriller. Wayne Selden (196-SF-94) stepped up with 22 points and 9 rebounds for the champions. Team USA claimed a 20:13 lead after ten minutes. Germany narrowed the gap in the second term. They pulled within 5 points at the interval 33:38. Germany triggered a 21:16 run in the third term to even things up at 54. The teams traded baskets throughout the fourth frame and first overtime. The USA dropped 11 points in the second extra period and sealed the victory. Perry Ellis (203-F-93) provided 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Frank Mason (180-PG) added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in the win. Maodo Lo (190-G-92) answered with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Germany. Niklas Geske (188-PG-94) had 11 points in the defeat.
3-4 Place
Brazil - Russia 72-80
Russia stepped onto the pedestal in Gwangju. Pavel Antipov (204-F-91) recorded 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the winners. Russia grabbed a 19:14 lead after ten minutes. Brazil narrowed the gap at 2-point mark at the interval. But Russia stepped onto the gas in the second half. They unloaded 49 points after the big break and rallied to the victory. Artem Vikhrov (196-PG-92, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) delivered 13 points in the win. Henrique Coelho (183-PG-93) responded with 26 points and 8 rebounds for Brazil.

USA - Russia 78-68
The USA advanced into the World University Games Final. They held off Russian in an exciting semifinal clash. Perry Ellis (203-F-93) scored 23 points to pace the winners. Russia gained an 18:14 lead after the opening quarter. But the USA responded with a 28-point outburst to secure a 42:39 halftime lead. They extended the margin at 5-point mark at the final intermission. The North American team held Russia to just 12 points in the fourth quarter and marched to the victory. Wayne Selden (196-SF-94) netted 22 points, while Frank Mason (180-PG) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the victory. Ivan Strebkov (192-PG-91) answered with 20 points for Russia. Artem Vikhrov (196-PG-92, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) had 11 points in the loss.

Germany - Brazil 59-49
Germany overcame Brazil in the semifinal clash in Gwangju. Bogdan Radosavljevic (213-C-93) posted 11 points and 13 rebounds to pace the winners. Germany eked out a narrow 24:23 halftime lead. The European team accounted for a 2-point lead before the fourth term. Germany held their opponents to just 11 points in the final frame and raced to the victory. Hans-George Brase (203-F-93) provided 10 points in the win. Lucas Dias Silva (209-F-95) responded with 11 points for Brazil.


Brazil, USA, Germany and Russia reach semifinals in Gwangju - Jul 11, 2015

Quarterfinals
France - Brazil 53-60
Brazil advanced into the semifinal stage at the World University Games. They rolled past France behind 15 points and 7 rebounds from Lucas Dias Silva (209-F-95). Brazil grabbed a 17:12 lead after ten minutes. France erased the deficit and secured a 29:28 halftime lead. Brazil held their opponents to just 9 points in the third frame and grabbed an 8-point lead at the final intermission. Brazil maintained the lead throughout the fourth quarter and surged to the win. Daniel Bordignon (206-C/F-96) and Arthur Casimiro (208-C-92, college: San Bernardino CC) had 10 points each for Brazil. Billy Ouattara (191-SG-92) and Antony Labanca (192-SG-94) replied with 12 points each for France.

USA - Lithuania 70-48
The USA stormed past Lithuania to advance into the semifinal stage in Gwangju. Frank Mason (180-PG) scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and issued 4 assists for the winners. Team USA accumulated a 37:30 halftime lead. Lithuania cut the distance in the third term. They got within 3 points at the final intermission. But Team USA bounced back with a 25:6 rally in the fourth quarter and eased to the victory. Wayne Selden (196-SF-94) provided 13 points for the winning side. Lithuania responded with 18 points from Paulius Dambrauskas (192-G-85).

Germany - Canada 79-73
Germany held off Canada in the quarterfinal clash in Gwangju today. Mathis Monninghoff (200-G/F-92, agency: Beo Basket, college: Gonzaga) stepped up with 16 points to pace the winners. Germany eked out a 32:29 halftime lead. Canada pulled within two points at the final intermission. But Germany unloaded 29 points in the fourth frame and cruised to the win. Maodo Lo (190-G-92) tossed in 14 points for Germany. Johnny Berhanemeskel (188-G-92, agency: Two Points) responded with 16 points for the North American team.

Russia - Estonia 86-65
Russia cruised past Estonia to seal their semifinal appearance. Aleksandr Gudumak (203-PF-93, agency: Alti Sport) scored 13 points to pace the winners. Russia earned a 44:26 halftime lead. Russia extended the margin at 23-point mark at the final break and never looked back en route to the victory. Artem Klimenko (214-C-94) and Artem Vikhrov (196-PG-92, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) accounted for 9 points each for the winners. Janari Joesaar (198-F-93) responded with 15 points for Estonia.


USA, Russia, Germany and France win Group Stage in Gwangju - Jul 9, 2015

USA, Russia, Germany and France win the Group Stage in Gwangju and are the only teams remained undefeated. Germany won Group A with a 4-0 record beating Mozambique 99-37.
Russia overcame Canada 68-61 for 5-0 record and handed the first loss to the Canadians. Trailing 5 points after the first period, Russian squad erupted with a 19-9 run in the second frame
and managed to win the third period 22-18. Pavel Antipov (204-F-91) top-scored for the winners with 13 points and Aleksandr Gudumak (203-PF-93, agency: Alti Sport) netted 12. Baker and Nixon replied with 13 points each in defeat.
France won Group C with a 5-0 record beating Japan 60-46. USA remained undefeated and won Group D with the win over Switzerland 96-57. Julian Debose (193-G-92) stepped up with 18 points and Wayne Selden (196-SF-94) nailed 16.


Review of Day 4 in Gwangju - Jul 8, 2015

Five teams remained undefeated at the World University Games in Gwangju. In Group A Germany overcame South Korea 67-58 for a 3-0 record as Radosavljevic top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Hans-George Brase (203-F-93) collected 13 points and 15 rebounds.
In Group B Canada and Russia improved to 4-0 records. Canada posted a comfortable 106-41 win over Mongolia, while Russia beat Mexico 87-68. Viktor Zaryazhko (194-G-92) and Antipov led the way with 11 points each, while Raul Borquez (190-G-93) replied with 19 points in defeat.
France smashed Taiwan 82-32 in Group C as they dominated all four quarters of the game. Moustapha Fall (218-C-92) stepped up with 15 points, while Harley and Poirier netted 11 apiece.
In Group D USA beat Serbia in one of the most interesting games of Day 4 66-65 and improved to a 4-0 record. Wayne Selden (196-SF-94) top-scored for the winners with 21 points and Hunter Mickelson (208-F-92) posted 14. Stefan Pot (195-G-94) responded with 14 points for the Serbian side.


Review of Day 3 in Gwangju - Jul 7, 2015

Day 3 just closed the doors at the World University Games in Gwangju. In Group A Germany reached two first wins as they beat Estonia 70-40 and China 91-64. In Group B Canada and Russia improved to 3-0 records each. Russia demolished Mongolia 99-33 as Artem Komolov (194-SG-93) netted 16 points and Zacharov as well as Andrey Desyatnikov (220-C-94, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) nailed 12 each. Canada, meanwhile overcame Montenegro 66-63 as Baker Jordan top-scored for the winners with 21 points.
In Group C France remained the only undefeated team as they beat Finland 85-47. Australia and Lithuania are with 2-1 records behind the French counterparts.
In Group D Serbia and USA posted three consecutive wins to take the top positions. Serbia overcame Turkey 61-43 as Jovan Novak (191-PG-94) led the winners with 16 points. USA did not leave any chances for Chile as they celebrated an easy 106-41 victory.
