Date: July 6, 2009
Argentina claimed the first win at the Eighth-Final round at the U19 World Championship in New Zealand. Today an Enrique Tolcachier team held off Spain to improve at 3-1 record in Group F. Spain slipped at 2-2. Five players scored in double figures for Argentina as they celebrated a well-crafted victory. Matias Nocedal paced the charge with 22 points. Argentina and Spain traded baskets in the fast first frame. The Latin American team managed to secure a narrow 2-point lead at the first break. Daniel Perez however sparked the Spaniards in the second stanza as they took over the advantage. The European outfit arrived at halftime ahead by 4 points. Argentina needed the major break to sober up. They tuned in their offense and started to overpower Spain on the glass. Argentina managed to earn a 2-point lead into the final stanza. But the fourth quarter turned into a one-way traffic as the Latin American side accounted for 33 points leaving Spain far away from the win. Lisandro Rasio tallied 13 points and 13 boards for Argentina. Luciano Gonzalez scored 17 points in the winning effort. Daniel Perez replied with 19 points for Spain. Toni Vicens finished with 14 points and 9 boards in defeat.
