It was the second appearance of the teams this time in Prague. At the end of the Second Stage USA beat Serbia 71:62. Tonight USA started with 26:22 lead, but led only 2 points at the halftime. The teams proved it one more time to be the best two teams of the tournament and remained tough in the second half. USA pushed the tempo in the second half and posted two victories. Australia - Lithuania 100-106 OT Lithuania clinched Bronze in Prague after an overtime thriller against Australia. The 2011 Champions grabbed a 106:100 win in the game for the third place. The game was close in the first quarter with Lithuania only able to open a five-point lead and the Europeans were up 21-18 after one quarter. Lithuania added 21-16 in the second frame and led 8 points at the halftime. Australia however erupted with 28-14 burst in the third period and took 6-point lead after 30 minutes. Dimsa Tomas and Dante Exum (193-PG-95) deadlocked the teams at 85:85 at regulation. In overtime Lithuania posted a 21-15 surge to win the game. Dimsa Tomas top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Grigonis Marius added 17. Lukas Lekavicius (180-G-94) brought 16, whilst Raupys Simas and Martin Geben (206-C-94) scored 12 each. Spain - Canada 72-68 Spain earned the fifth place at the U19 World Championship. They ended their campaign with a narrow win over Canada today. Juan Saiz (204-PF-94) stepped up with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the European team. Spain ran to a 14:8 lead after ten minutes of action. The tempo increased in the second frame. Spain accounted for a 39:26 halftime lead. Spain maintained the lead throughout the third term. The European team arrived at the final break up by 14 points. Canada went on a strong rally in the fourth frame to cut the deficit at 5-point mark with under four minutes to go. But Guillermo Hernangomez (209-C-94) converted a three-point play to keep Spain comfortably in front. Canada got within three points but Edgar Vicedo and Brizuela sank three free throws in the dying seconds to seal the victory for Spain. China looked outstanding in the first period and grabbed a 28-14 surge. Moreover the game was done at the halftime when China added 22-12 burst before the break. China also won the third period 25:20 and did not mind a 19-34 loss in the last stanza. Gao Shang (198-F/G-94) erupted with 33 points for the winners and Yuan Shuai netted 23. Argentina - Russia 59-63 Russia open Classification Round with the win at the U19 World Championship. The European side overcame Argentina U19 63:59 in the start of round for 9-12 places. Russia took control from the very beginning and enjoyed a 25:16 lead after the first 10 minutes. Argentina however was too far to give up and reduced to 34:30 at the halftime. Moreover Haag tied the score at 36:36 and Gonzalo Torres (202-F/C-94) closed the frame at 48:47. The latter also brought 55:51 midway through the last period, but Argentina could not win the game. Kanygin Igor tied the game at 57:57 and then Mikhail Kulagin (188-PG-94) brought the last points for Russia. Mikhail Kulagin led the way with 20 points and 16 rebounds, while Kanygin Igor notched 13. Iran looked better in the opening tip of the game, but failed in the end of the quarter. Brazil closed the first period at 19:10 and then added 14-11 rally in the second frame. Iran actually played better in the second half and posted two narrow victories in the third and the last quarters. The Asian side had a 15-14 rally in the third quarter and then finished the game with a 17-16 run. Leonardo Demetrio (204-F/C-94) top-scored for the winners with 14 points and Ramos Deryk added 9. Eduardo Campos (204-F-95) poured in 8, while Martins Guilherme notched 6. Yakhchali Behnam finished the game with 17 points in the losing effort, whilst Sajjad Mashayekhi (180-PG-94) delivered 14. Canada - USA 67-109 USA complete the Semifinal picture of the U19 World Championship. One of the favorites rolled over Canada 109:67 and remained undefeated at the tournament. In year 2011 USA could not advance to the Semifinals as Russia beat them 79:74. This year the favorites are very strong for their opponents and prove in every game. They started with 30:22 lead against Canada and led 53:38 at the halftime. Moreover the second half also belonged to USA. The latter won the third quarter 31-12 and added 25-17 run at the end. Marcus Smart (193-G-94) top-scored for the winners with 14 points, while Frazier Michael, Jahlil Okafor-Benton (210-C-95) and Gordon Aaron posted 12 each. Croatia - Serbia 66-73 Serbia advanced into U19 World Championship semifinals. They overcame their archrivals Croatia in the Balkan classic in the quarterfinals. Mihajlo Andric posted 20 points to pace the winning side. It was Serbia who surged ahead in the opening frame. They grabbed a 24:17 lead ten minutes into the game. But Croatia slowed their opponents in the second frame. They got within 3 points at the interval 35:38. Serbia quickly cleared off to a double-digit lead in the third term. But Croatia stuck around. Spain - Australia 76-87 Australia became the U19 World Championship semifinalists. They upset one of the big time favourites Spain in the quarterfinal battle tonight. Dante Exum exploded with 33 points to lead the charge. The Emus gained a 19:15 lead after ten minutes. Spain opened the second frame with five straight points to pull ahead. But the Emus answered with a 16:2 rally to take a comfortable lead. Australia accumulated a 45:31 halftime lead. The gap quickly at 20-point mark in the third term as Spain started to lag behind. Australia entered the fourth frame up by 18 points 66:48. Spain were able to cut the distance to just 6 points 72:78 with just 80 seconds remaining. Lithuania was the favorite of the game but could not show their ambitions in the first period. The Asian team managed to stay tough as both sides posted 18 points in the first 10 minutes. Only in the second frame Lithuania needed a 26-14 surge to get 12-point advantage at the halftime. Moreover Lithuania added 27-13 surge in the third period and had 18-13 in the last stanza. The African team enjoyed an 18:15 lead after ten minutes. South Korea increased the tempo in the second frame. They fired 25 points in the quarter to ensure a 40:36 halftime advantage. The Asian team maintained the lead throughout the third period. They accumulated a 7-point lead at the final intermission. China - Russia 61-59 China secure a narrow win against Russia at the start of the FIBA U19 Championship for Men. The Chinese team grabbed a 61:59 win due to outstanding performance by Zhou Qi (217-C-96). The latter collected 28 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Asian side. China started the game with 19-15 lead and added 14-12 rally in the second frame. The European side replied with a 19-16 rally in the third period and reduced to 2 points entering the last stanza. Rostislav Karenin (202-F/C-94) gave Russia 56:55 lead with 2 minutes to go, while Wu Qian made two free throws for 60:59. He also added another free throw in the last seconds for 2-point total win. Gao Shang (198-F/G-94) scored 12 points, while Wu Qian posted 11. Ji Wei ZHAO followed them with 6 points in a win. Rostislav Karenin scored 14 points in defeat and Serdar Annaev brought 11.
Ivory Coast - USA 29-88 USA leave no chance for Cote d'Ivoire in the last game of the U19 World Championship Day 1. One of the favorites started the campaign with a confident 88:29 win.
