Lithuania U19 won the 2011 U19 FIBA World Championships! The Baltic side
won over Serbia U19 85:67 to become the best U19 team of the world with
MVP,
Jonas Valanciunas (210-C-92). Djordje Drenovac and
Bogdan Bogdanovic (198-F-92) scored the first points for the Serbian
team, but the Baltic State reply with 6 consecutive points. Nemanja
Besovic later tied the game at 9:9, while Dovydas Redikas closed the
opening period at 18:13. In the second period Lithuania led from the
beginning until the end.
Jonas Valanciunas scored for 26:19 and Vytenis Cizauskas posted two
for 39:32 that was the last points in the first half.
Jonas Valanciunas increased to 41:32 but Serbia did not give up in
the game.

Beo Basket) tied the game at 44:44 after a massive lead of the
Serbia squad. The winners immediately replied with 5-0 run as Arnas

Championships. The Russian team overcame Argentina U19 for the third
place 77:72. Both teams desired to finish the campaign with the win
after the losses at the semifinals last night. They both nailed 19
points in the opening quarter and continued the battle in the second
frame. Carlos Paredes nailed three for 34:27, while
Dmitry Kulagin (195-G-92) reduced to 40:35 at the halftime.
Franco Giorgetti (202-F-92) gave the Latin American team the biggest
lead in the game at 51:40, but they could not keep the lead for good.
Dmitry Kulagin closed the period at 53:50 and the last stanza
belonged to Russia.
Sergey Karasev (200-F-93) tied the game at 53:53 early in the last
and Vladislav Trushkin nailed from the arc for 58:57.

USA claimed the fifth position at the U19 World Championship in Latvia.
They prevailed against Australia in the final game at the tournament.
Tim Hardaway Jr. (195-G-92) Jr. knocked down 21 points to pace the
North American team. The Emus started the game strongly. They grabbed a
24:21 lead at the first break. Australia maintained the lead throughout
the second term. The Emus posted a 43:39 halftime advantage. The USA
bounced back in the third term. They erased the deficit and posted a
60:59 lead with one quarter remaining. The United States stayed in
charge in the fourth frame. However Drmic put the Emus in front by one
late in regulation. The USA found their hero in
Jeremy Lamb (195-G/F-92) as he accounted for two points and sealed
the win for the USA.

Meyers Leonard (213-C-92) added 10 points in the win. Hugh Greenwood

Croatia - Poland

Poland wrapped up their U19 World Championship campaign with victory.
They rallied past Croatia to clinch the seventh place in the ladder.
Przemyslaw Karnowski (213-C-93) knocked down 29 points and grabbed 9
rebounds to lead the winners. It does not look good for Poland in the
opening quarter. Croatia erupted for 26 points in the first frame to
take an 8-point lead. The teams traded baskets throughout the second
stanza. Croatia ensured a 46:38 halftime advantage. But Poland turned
things around in the third term. Poland capped the frame with a 12:2 run
to secure a 60:57 advantage with one quarter remaining.
Przemyslaw Karnowski and
Michal Michalak (194-G-93) opened up a double-digit lead for Poland
midway through the fourth quarter 71:61. Croatia could not recover in
the dying minutes and had to surrender at the end.

Lithuania - Russia

Lithuania have become the first U19 World Championship finalists. They
outgunned Russian counterparts in the first semifinal in Riga tonight.
Jonas Valanciunas (210-C-92) came up with 21 points and 13 rebounds
to pace the winners. Lithuania stunned their opponetns in the first
half. Russia led 3:0 early in the encounter but the Baltic team went on
a 21:6 run to build a comfortable lead. Lithuania ensured a 25:11
advantage at the first break. The margin grew at 27-point mark midway
through the second term as the game slightly turned into a one-way
traffic. Lithuania secured a 53:26 halftime lead. Lithuania boosted the
gap to 30 points in the third term but Russia managed to narrow the
deficit at 20 points with ten minutes remaining 50:70. Russia used a
10:2 run early in the fourth frame to get within 12 points 62:74.
However Pukis and
Zygimantas Skucas (200-F-92) came up with timely five points in the
fourth quarter to tame Russia and Lithuania rolled to the victory at the
end. Dovydas Redikas finished with 13 points, while
Zygimantas Skucas added 12 points in the win. Dmitry Kulagin
responded with 27 points for Russia. Alexander Tikhonin contributed 13
points in the loss.
Serbia - Argentina

The game between Serbia and Argentina became the last in the last but
one day of the 2011 U19 FIBA World Championships. The European team
needed strong second half to ensure 76:71 win. Argentina won the opening
tip 6:2 as Franco Giorgetti made the jump shot. The European team
however looked better in the end of the quarter and grabbed 16:14
advantage. Patricio Garino tied the game at 16:16, while Marko Gujanicic
gave Serbia 24:19.
Juan Giaveno (175-PG-92) tied the game at 26:26 and Nikola Siladi
sent the squads to the lockers for 32:28. The third quarter became the
most productive and offensive in the game. Serbia won it 29-22 as Petar
Lambic scored for 57:54. Luciano Massarelli however tied the game at
61:61 early in the fourth, while
Nemanja Besovic (221-C-92) made the same at 63:63. Marko Gujanicic
gave Serbia 66:63 from the perimeter and Pablo Perez made two free

Poland - USA

USA U19 demolish the Polish side to recover from last night loss to
Russia. The American team won 84:47 at the 2011 U19 FIBA World
Championships and will play for the 5th place tomorrow. Poland won the
opening tip 5:2 as Grzegorz Grochowski nailed three for the lead.
Doug McDermott (200-F-92) gave USA 13:9, while
Meyers Leonard (213-C-92) closed the first period at 19:11. A tight
and gritty third period saw buckets hard to come by. Slowly but
confident the favorites reached the bigger lead as they won the second
frame 17-10.
Doug McDermott and Przemyslaw Karnowski were the last players to
score at the half for 36:21 deficit. USA needed 11-0 run to start the
third period as the result became known in the start of the second half.
Patric Young scored for 47:21 and
Meyers Leonard made a dunk for 55:31. USA won the third period 23-11
as
Meyers Leonard closed the thirty minutes of the game with the
successful shot. The fourth period also belonged to the favorites that
ensured the bigger victory.

boards for the Emus. Australia grabbed the lead from the early stages.
The Emus rallied to a 24:19 lead after ten minutes. The teams traded
baskets throughout the second term. The Australian team secured a 40:35
halftime lead. The Emus continued to get away in the third stanza. They
outmuscled Croatia in the paint and easily gained an 11-point advantage
with one quarter remaining. Australia went on a 28:12 rally in the

assists, while

Brazil - Latvia

Brazil U19 finished on the 9th place at the 2011 U19 FIBA World
Championships. The Latin American team won over the hosts 81:73 to send
them to the 10th place. Janis Timma gave the Baltic side 8:3 lead, but
they could not keep the leading advantage. Lucas Nogueira closed the
first period at 21:14, while Davis Bertans reduced to 23:21 early in the
second. Brazil pushed the tempo in the end of the half and Raul Neto
sent the teams to the lockers at 41:35. In the third period the picture
had changed in the game and both squads exchanged the baskets for their
own leads.
Kaspars Vecvagars (191-G-93) gave the hosts 44:43 and Davis Bertans

Egypt - Canada

Canada wrapped up their U19 World Championship campaign with victory.
They knocked down Egypt to earn the 11th overall place.
Dyshawn Pierre (198-F-93) led the North American team to the win
tallying 28 points, 13 boards and 4 assists. Egypt looked slightly
better in the starting period as they gained an 18:17 lead at the first
break. But Canada gradually took over. The North Americans rallied to a
38:34 halftime advantage. The teams increased the tempo in the third
term. They combined for 49 points in the quarter as Canada were able to
secure a 5-point advantage before the fourth frame. Canada withheld all
the comeback efforts from Egypt to celebrate a tough victory at the end.
Kevin Pangos delivered 18 points, while Stefan Jankovic provided 10
points in the victory.

started strong and surprised USA with 25-18 in the first period.
Moreover after 15-12 in the second frame the underdogs enjoyed 40:30
halftime advantage. Despite having lost their 10 point deficit, Russia
did not appear to be panicking as they have in games previous, appearing
happy to run the shot clock down and wait for their opportunities to
penetrate. USA grabbed 1 points lead after thirty minutes as they edged
Russia 23-12 in the third period. The last quarter was the benefit of
Trushkin that hit 14 points in the final quarter to bring the most

Quarterfinals. The Russian selection grabbed 73:63 over Latvia U19 at
the 2011 U19 FIBA World Championships. It was a tough start and it
proved the battle until the very end. Latvia erupted for 18-6, however
Russia reduced to 21-15 at the end of the first period. They even closed
it to just one, but managed to win the second period only 12-11 and
trailed 27-32 at the halftime. The Baltic side led in the whole third
period and enjoyed 49:43 after thirty minutes. Russia, however exploded
in the last frame and won the thriller. The Russian team needed 30-14 as
Alexander Varnakov (185-G-92) made the final 73:63 victory.

ended a three game losing streak, beating the tournament hosts Latvia.
Should Argentina win Russia advance but if they lose then Brazil hold

The Latin American team produced a 97:56 over the African team as the
latter finished the group with 0-3 record. Brazil started with 23-9 in
the opening period when Gabriel Aguirre made two free throws. For about
three minutes in the second period the teams remained scoreless, while
Davi Rossetto broke the silence. Sofian M'Rad reduced to 35:25 and
Cristiano Felicio (206-C-92) sent the teams to the lockers for
41:26. In the third period Brazil proved their superiority and increased
to 6 more points after 26-20 in the quarter. The last frame was the
nightmare for the team from Africa that could not stay on track anymore.
Felipe Vezaro made it 73:51 and then Brazil added 9-0 run for 84:52 as
Felipe Vezaro nailed three.
Durval Cunha (200-F-92) scored the last points for the winners,
while the board showed the final 97:56 win.
Lucas Nogueira (213-C-92) top-scored for the winners with 19 points
and 10 rebounds, while Felipe Vezaro netted 12. Davi Rossetto and

Russia - Poland

Poland celebrated the second win at U19 World Championship in Latvia.
They rallied past Russia to improve at 2-1 record in Group A. Polish
team thus caught up with Russia in the ladder. Przemyslaw Karnowski
stepped up with 23 points to lead the winners. It was a close battle in
the first half. Poland grabbed a 17:9 lead midway through the first
period but Russia narrowed the gap to a single point 17:18 at the break.
The lead changed hands for several times throughout the second stanza
before
Dmitry Kulagin (195-G-92) levelled things up at 44. Russia pulled
ahead 53:52 midway through the third term but Poland went on an 18:5
rally to establish a 70:58 lead with one quarter remaining. Russia never
got closer than seven points throughout the last quarter as Poland
marched to the second win at the tournament.
Michal Michalak (194-G-93) and Mateusz Ponitka delivered 19 points
apiece in the win. Piotr Niedzwiedzki added 11 points for Poland.
Sergey Karasev (200-F-93) answered with 14 points for Russia.

Argentina - Latvia

Argentina finished the preliminary round on a high note. They shocked
Latvia in Valmiera tonight but still finished at the third position in
preliminary round Group B. Latvia earned the second spot just behind
Australia.
Luciano Massarelli (183-PG-93) stepped up with 15 points to pace
Argentina. The Latin American side entered the game playing aggressively
in defence. They limited the hosts to only 9 points in the opening frame
and recorded an 18:9 lead. Latvia managed just 9 points in the second
stanza to face a 14-point deficit at halftime 18:32. The hosts started
to show some signs of recovery in the third period. Latvia fired 22
points in the quarter to narrow the margin at 9-point mark. Latvia get
even closer in the fourth frame but Argentina snatched a tough win at
the end. Franco Giorgetti accounted for 14 points and 10 rebounds for
Argentina.
Marcos Delia (206-C-92) produced 12 points and 12 rebounds in the
win. Kaspars Vecvagars answered with 17 points for Latvia.

Australian U19 National Team posted the second win at the World
Championship in Latvia. They held off Taiwan for 2-1 record in
preliminary Group B. The Emus thus advanced into eighth-final stage,
while Taiwan suffered the third straight loss and would play in
classification round for 13th-16th place.
Anthony Drmic (196-F/G-92) stepped up with 34 points and 8 rebounds
to pace the Aussies in this one. Australia stunned their opponents
early. The Emus outscored Taiwan 29:17 in the starting quarter to build
a 12-point lead. Australia kept Taiwan at bay throughout the second
period. The Emus established a 49:34 halftime advantage. More to come in
the third quarter as Australia erupted for 30 points taking a massive
29-point lead with ten minutes remaining. The Emus never slowed down
rallying a confident win at the end.
Igor Hadziomerovic (195-G-92) delivered 27 points for the Emus.
Mitchell Creek (198-F/G-92) added 9 points in the victory.
Hung Kang-Chiao (191-F-92) answered with 22 points for Taiwan. Hu

Canada - Lithuania

Lithuania U19, that is one of the favorites of the World Championships
U19 won another game to win Group C in Liepaja. The Baltic State won
over Canada U19 111:68 for 2-1 record. Lithuania did not wait and showed
their superiority from the very beginning. The Baltic State grabbed
29-13 after the first 10 minutes and never looked behind. Moreover they
added 32-15 in the second period to take 61:28 at the halftime.
Lithuania did not slow down and won also the third and the last periods.
They produced 23-22 in the third period and added 27-18 in the last
frame.
Vytenis Cizauskas (190-G-92) stepped up with 22 points and
Jonas Valanciunas (210-C-92) netted 15.
Egidijus Mockevicius (204-C-92) ended up with 13 points and Edgaras
Ulanovas delivered 12. Dyshawn Pierre delivered 10 in the losing effort,
while Sim Bhullar and
Philip Scrubb (194-G-92) scored 8 each. Both teams advanced to the
next stage of the competition.
South Korea - Croatia

South Korea opened win count at U19 World Championship. They rolled past
Croatia to finish at 1-2 record in Group C action. Croatia slipped at
2-1 record after the loss.
Kim HyeongJun (195-F-93) and
Kim Manjong (200-F-92) stepped up with 19 points each to lead the
winners. Croatia led by two points after ten minutes of action. But the
Asian team turned things around in the second quarter. South Korea went
on a decisive 24:11 rally to arrive at halftime leading by 11 points
43:32. Croatia tried to change the complexion of the encounter after the
big break. They limited South Korea to 14 points in the third quarter to
get within 6 points at the final intermission. But the Korean team
stayed determined in the fourth frame and eked out a tough victory at
the end.
Kim Jun-Yl (202-C-92) and Dong Yeop Lee delivered 12 points apiece
in the victory.
Boris Barac (206-F-92) reacted with 21 points and 7 rebounds for
Croatia. Stipe Krstanovic accounted for 19 points and 16 rebounds in the

Egypt - Serbia

Serbia dominated the game against Egypt and recorded a well-deserved win
at the U19 World Championship in Latvia. The victory propelled Serbia to
2-1 record in Group D. They clinched the second position in the ladder.
Egypt slipped at 1-2 record.
Aleksandar Cvetkovic (185-PG-93) fired 24 points to lead the charge.
Egypt led for a brief period of time early in the encounter. But Serbia
quickly erased the deficit and registered a 25:15 advantage late in the
opening frame. Serbia boosted the lead to as many as 16 points in the
second stanza. They kept Egypt at bay posting a 45:35 halftime lead.
Assem Ahmed (205-C-92) and Seif Samir dragged Egypt within five
points at the start of the third term. Marawan Mohamed narrowed the gap
to only three points but Serbia finished the quarter strongly restoring
a comfortable 64:53 lead with one quarter remaining. Egypt never got
closer than 9 points in the final period as Serbia coasted to the
victory at the end. Marko Gujanicic accounted for 11 points and 14
rebounds, while
Petar Lambic (195-G-92) netted 12 points in the victory.
Assem Ahmed responded with 20 points and 11 rebounds for Egypt. Omar
Mohammed nailed 14 points in the loss.
USA - China

USA U19 win Group D in Liepaja after the third straight victory at the
World Cup U19. The defending champions overcame China U19
82:66 to keep them winless in Latvia. The favorites opened the game as
if they had to and reached 25-13 after the first 10 minutes. In the
second frame the American team needed 19-15 for 44:28 halftime
advantage. China seemed to be back on track in the third period as they
had nothing to lose and shocked USA with 25-12 in the frame. The latter
however replied with 26-13 in the last period to seal the third victory.
Jeremy Lamb (195-G/F-92) paced all the winners with 17 points and
Doug McDermott (200-F-92) netted 15. Hardaway Tim and
Khyle Marshall (200-F-92) followed them with 13 points each. Ju

Brazil celebrated the first win at the 2011 U19 World Championship in
Latvia. They overcame Polish counterparts to improve at 1-1 record in
Group B. Brazil thus caught up with Poland in the ladder.
Raul Neto (186-PG-92) stepped up with 16 points and 5 assists to
pace the Latin American side. Poland ensured the better start to the
game. They rallied to a 22:18 lead at the first intermission. Brazil
tipped off the second period on an 11:2 run to surge ahead. Soon Brazil
stretched the gap to double digits late in the first half. Grochowski
dropped five points in a row to drag Poland within 9 points at halftime
32:41. Poland went on a 16:0 rally to erase the deficit and pull in
front. Poland maintained the advantage and entered the fourth quarter up
by two points 52:50. Brazil ignited a 20:6 run midway through the fourth
frame to take a 76:64 lead with just over a minute remaining. Poland
never recovered and had to yield at the end.

Championships. The European side had a three-digit winning number at
101:55 victory. It was not an easy start for Russia that trailed 6:8
after
Maher Souabni (185-G-92)'s shot. Layter Artem Vikhrov and
Gleb Goldyrev (200-F-93) put Russia in front at 20:14 and they won
the first period 21:16. The second frame however became the benefit for
the European team that erupted with 29-13 and reached 50:29 at the
halftime.
Dmitry Kulagin (195-G-92) nailed three in the start of the third
period and then Russia added 23-14 in the next ten minutes. Mikhail
Karpachev gave Russia three digits number making the jump shot at the
very end.
Dmitry Kulagin led the way with 18 points, while
Alexander Varnakov (185-G-92) netted 15.

17:16 lead ten minutes into the game. Argentina started to clear off in
the second frame. They ensured a 38:31 halftime lead. Argentina stunned
Taiwan right after the big break. The Latin American side outscored
their opponents 29:10 in the third frame to boost the gap at 26-point
mark with one quarter remaining. Taiwan went on a desperate rescue rally
in the fourth period. They cut the distance but never threatened the
margin in the final term.

Dyshawn Pierre (198-F-93) tied the game at 14:14, while Dario Saric
gave Croatia 26:21 at the end of the first period.
Julian Clarke (191-G-92) nailed three for 31:31 in the second frame,
while
Mario Hezonja (196-G-95) made it even at 37:37. Dario Saric sent the
teams to the lockers as Croatia enjoyed the minimum 44:43 deficit after
20 minutes in the court. Canada won the third frame 20-18 and
Sim Bhullar (223-C-92) brought 63:62 on the board.
Mario Hezonja started the last frame with the three-pointer and
Croatia later imprved to 81:72 midway through the last frame. Junior
Lomomba reduced to 82:79, but

Lithuania overcame South Korea in Day 2 of the FIBA U19 World
Championship. The Blatic State destroyed the opponent from Asia 117:64
at the Preliminary Round. Lithuania started well and grabbed easily
33-11 after the first 10 minutes. They added 30-21 in the second period
for massive 63:33 halftime advantage. In the second half the Baltic team
looked also better and produced 31-12 and 23-20 in the third and the
last periods respectively.
Jonas Valanciunas (210-C-92) stepped up with 25 points and 17
rebounds for the winners, while
Vytenis Cizauskas (190-G-92) collected 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7
assists.

Serbia - USA

USA U19 registered the second win at the FIBA World Championships. The
defending champions grabbed 80:78 over Serbia U19 due to the first half.
USA started better and reached 21-17 in the first period. The defending
champions continued well and added 17-14 in the second period. They
enjoyed 7 points advantage at the halftime, but then the European team
went back on track. Serbia reduced to 4 points after 22-19 in the third
frame and looked forward for the last period. They also won the fourth
quarter 25-23, but could not win the game and upset the favorites. USA
escaped the narrow win for 2-0 record in the group.
Joe Jackson (182-G-92) paced all the winners with 19 points and
Patric Young (205-F/C-92) netted 13.
Tim Hardaway Jr. (195-G-92) and
Tony Mitchell (206-F/C-92) followed them with 11 points apiece.

Egypt recovered well after the starting loss to the USA at the U19 World
Championship in Latvia. The African team shocked China in a
heart-stopping double-overtime game tonight to improve at 1-1 record D.
China on the other hand suffered the second loss in a row to remain
winless. Egypt opened the game with a 9:3 run and maintained the lead
throughout the opening quarter. They recorded a 16:10 lead after ten
minutes. China tipped off the second frame with nine unanswered points
to spur in front. But Egypt capped the half with a 14:2 run to regain
the lead at 34:25. The African team boosted the margin to double figures
midway through the third quarter. Egypt arrived at the final
intermission up by 13 points 56:43. China went on a desperate rescue
rally in the fourth frame. Hanchen Luo,
Wang Zirui (190-G-93) and Mingxin Ju narrowed the gap at just 6
points with over three minutes remaining. Mingxin Ju followed with
another triple as the gap grew thinner. Ailun Guo dragged China within
one point 69:70 with just over two minutes to go. Omar Mohammed got
fouled and sank both free throws to keep Egypt in charge.
Assem Ahmed (205-C-92) knocked down four free throws but a
three-pointer from
Wang Zirui and a jumper from Mingxin Ju forced overtime. The teams
went neck and neck throughout the first extra period. China finally
surged ahead 85:81 but Hatem Hossam and Youssef Shousha nailed six
points in a row to give Egypt an 87:85 lead. Ailun Guo drained a jumper
to level things up at 87 and forced the second overtime. Hatem Hossam,
Seif Samir (205-C-93) and Omar Mohammed ensured a 7-point lead for
the African side in the second extra frame. But Mingxin Ju reacted with
a treble to keep China hopeful.
Assem Ahmed and Omar Mohammed followed with four points and Egypt
hung on to escape with a dramatic victory at the end.
Assem Ahmed finished with 25 points and 16 boards for Egypt.

Latvia. They eked out a dramatic victory over Brazil in Group A opener
for both teams.
Sergey Karasev (200-F-93) drained a buzzer-beating three-pointer to
seal the victory. He finished with 24 points, 6 boards and 3 assists in
the victory. Russia got to a high-flying start to the game. They erupted
for 27 points in the opening term taking a 6-point lead after ten
minutes. But Brazil quickly erased the deficit.
Gabriel Aguirre (208-C-92) put the Latin American side ahead 39:37
midway through the second stanza. Brazil arrived at halftime leading by
two points 41:39. Brazil maintained the lead early in the third term.
Raul Neto gave them a 55:47 advantage but Russia found the way to bounce
back. They capped the period with a 13:2 rally and gained a 62:59 lead.
The lead changed hands throughout the fourth term.
Sergey Karasev put Russian in charge 76:73 with just over a minute
to go. But Felipe Taddei answered with a triple to level things up with
21 seconds remaining. Andrey Andrey Loginov knocked down a jumper to
give Russia a 78:76 with five seconds left in regulation. Lucas Riva got
fouled and sank both free throws to draw things level at 78. But Russia
used two seconds left to the full.
Sergey Karasev drained a buzzer-beater clinching the victory for
Russia.

points each for the winners. Raul Neto answered with 20 points for

Poland - Tunisia

Polish U19 National Team victoriously opened their World Championship
campaign. They breezed past their Tunisian counterparts to improve at
1-0 record in Group A.
Mateusz Ponitka (196-G-93) scored 17 points to pace the winners.
Poland opened the game with five points in a row and controlled the
tempo. They built an 18:13 lead after ten minutes of action.
Niedzwiedzki and
Michal Michalak (194-G-93) opened a double-digit lead midway through
the second frame. Soon the margin grew at 20-point mark as Poland took
over completely. They enjoyed a 46:27 lead at the interval. One-way
traffic continued in the third period. Poland accumulated a comfortable
72:40 lead with one quarter to go. The Europeans never looked back en
route to the victory afterwards.
Michal Michalak stepped up with 15 points, while Przemyslaw
Karnowski added 11 points and 7 boards in the victory. Aymen Mahmoud
responded with 10 points for Tunisia. Sofian M'Rad and Maher Souabni
delivered 9 points each in the loss.

Argentina - Australia

Australia won their opener of the U19 World Championship in Latvia. The
team overcame Argentina 73:49 mostly making the win bigger in the last
period. Australia started well and reached 17-10 in the end of the first
period. Hugh Greenwood made a dunk to open the second frame and later
the winners added 15-10 in the second period. Luciano Massarelli closed
the first half from the free throw line making 32:20 on the board. The
third period was tough, bit Australia kept the winning advantage and
then erupted in the last quarter. Hugh Greenwood nailed three in the
last of the stanza and
Anthony Drmic (196-F/G-92) made later 53:23 on the board. After
29-18 in the last period, Australia U19 registered the first victory.
Anthony Drmic stepped up with 25 points for the winners and Hugh
Greenwood netted 16.
Mitchell Creek (198-F/G-92) scored 8, while Jackson Aldridge and
Igor Hadziomerovic added 7 each. Luciano Massarelli posted 16 in defeat,

The hosts of the U19 World Championship recorded its first win in the
end of Day 1. Latvia U19 edged Taiwan U19 85:67 in the last game of
June. The teams were tied at 4:4 before Latvia went on a lead.
Janis Timma (201-F/G-92) closed a 6-0 run for 10:4 and then added
two for 17:12.
Arnolds Helmanis (201-F-92) closed the first period at 25:20, while
Kang-Chaio Hung scored for 28:23. After 17-13 in the second frame
Janis Timma sent the teams to the lockers for 42:33. In the third
quarter the hosts produced a 24-14 for 66:47 deficit. Wei-Ju Chien was
the first to score in the last quarter, but
Arnolds Helmanis scored for 82:65. Taiwan U19 won the last period
20-19 but cut the deficit to 18 points at the every end.

U19 in the opener. The Canadian team produced a three digit number to
taste 109:93 win. Canada started with 28-22 in the first period, but
then scored 27 points in the next three quarters. South Korea managed to
win the second period 29-27 to reduce the gap to 4 points at the
halftime. The number 27 was enough in the third and the last periods.
Canada won the third frame 27-25 and added 27-17 in the last quarter.
Bhullar Sim paced all the winners with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while
Dyshawn Pierre (198-F-93) collected 23 points and 10 boards.
Julian Clarke (191-G-92) delivered 17 points, while
Justin Shaver (198-F-92) collected 13 points and 11 rebounds. Lee

through the second frame. Lithuanua erased the deficit but Croatia
capped the half with a 13:2 rally to build a 42:31 advantage. The Croats
opened the third term on a 7:0 run to boost the margin. Croatia ensured
a 68:53 lead with one quarter remaining. Lithuania could not get closer
than 8 points in the fourth frame and had to surrender at the end. Boris
Barac and Dario Saric delivered 22 points each for the winners.
Jonas Valanciunas (210-C-92) answered with 19 points and 13 rebounds
for Lithuania. Zygimantas Skucas posted 13 points in the loss.

China - Serbia

Serbia opened win count at U19 World Championship. They toppled China in
the opener tonight. Aleksandar Cvetkovic stepped up with 20 points to
lead the effort. The lead changed hands throughout intense first period.
Zhelin Wang gave China a narrow 16:14 advantage after ten minutes of
action. China stretched the margin to 5 points midway through the second
period but Serbia recovered.
Bogic Vujosevic (189-PG-92, agency:
Beo Basket), Mitrovic and Aleksandar Cvetkovic helped their team to
take a 36:35 halftime lead. The teams went neck and neck throughout the
third quarter but Serbia were able to secure a 54:49 advantage with one
quarter to go.
Ju Mingxin (200-F/G-93) and Zirui Wang knotted things up at 54 early
in the fourth period. However
Bogic Vujosevic and Djordje Drenovac restored lead for Serbia. Soon
the European team opened a 12-point lead 76:64. Xiaochuan Zhai and Guo
Ailun dragged China within three points 73:76 late in the game however
Aleksandar Cvetkovic sank two free throws and sealed the victory for
Serbia.
Bogic Vujosevic accounted for 16 points, while Djordje Drenovac
added 14 points in the win. Guo Ailun answered with 21 points for China.
Ju Mingxin had 11 points in defeat.
USA - Egypt

The United States marched to the opening win at the U19 World
Championship in Latvia. They rolled past Egypt in Group D today. Doug
McDermott stepped up with 19 points to lead the effort. USA tipped off
the game with a stunning 22:0 run. They accumulated a 25:5 lead after
ten minutes of action. Egypt managed to get within 14 points midway
through the second term 22:36. But the North American side quickly
restored a safe buffer posting a 50:29 halftime lead. The margin kept on
growing in the third term. The USA established a comfortable 38-point
lead with one quarter to go 82:44. Egypt could not get any closer in the
fourth period suffering a heavy loss at the end. Joe Jackson and Jeremy
Lamb chipped in 15 points each for the USA.
Meyers Leonard (213-C-92) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the
victory.
Omar Mohammed responded with 17 points for Egypt. Assem Ahmed netted
16 points and pulled down 9 boards in the loss.
