Preliminary Round Day 1: CHINA - SERBIA 73-78

Serbia opened win count at U19 World Championship. They toppled China in the opener tonight. Aleksandar Cvetkovic stepped up with 20 points to lead the effort. The lead changed hands throughout intense first period. Zhelin Wang gave China a narrow 16:14 advantage after ten minutes of action. China stretched the margin to 5 points midway through the second period but Serbia recovered. Bogic Vujosevic, Mitrovic and Aleksandar Cvetkovic helped their team to take a 36:35 halftime lead. The teams went neck and neck throughout the third quarter but Serbia were able to secure a 54:49 advantage with one quarter to go. Ju Mingxin and Zirui Wang knotted things up at 54 early in the fourth period. However Bogic Vujosevic and Djordje Drenovac restored lead for Serbia. Soon the European team opened a 12-point lead 76:64. Xiaochuan Zhai and Guo Ailun dragged China within three points 73:76 late in the game however Aleksandar Cvetkovic sank two free throws and sealed the victory for Serbia. Bogic Vujosevic accounted for 16 points, while Djordje Drenovac added 14 points in the win. Guo Ailun answered with 21 points for China. Ju Mingxin had 11 points in defeat.
