The hosts of the U19 World Championship recorded its first win in the end of Day 1. Latvia U19 edged Taiwan U19 85:67 in the last game of June. The teams were tied at 4:4 before Latvia went on a lead. Janis Timma closed a 6-0 run for 10:4 and then added two for 17:12. Arnolds Helmanis closed the first period at 25:20, while Kang-Chaio Hung scored for 28:23. After 17-13 in the second frame Janis Timma sent the teams to the lockers for 42:33. In the third quarter the hosts produced a 24-14 for 66:47 deficit. Wei-Ju Chien was the first to score in the last quarter, but Arnolds Helmanis scored for 82:65. Taiwan U19 won the last period 20-19 but cut the deficit to 18 points at the every end. Janis Timma paced all the winners with 23 points and 14 rebounds for the home side and Davis Bertans netted 13.Kaspars Vecvagars and Edmunds Dukulus followed them with 10 points as the latter also added 12 rebounds. Long-Mao Hu answered with 18 points in the losing effort, whilst Ying-Chun Chen notched 11.
