Preliminary Round Day 2: BRAZIL - POLAND 79-70

Brazil celebrated the first win at the 2011 U19 World Championship in Latvia. They overcame Polish counterparts to improve at 1-1 record in Group B. Brazil thus caught up with Poland in the ladder. Raul Neto stepped up with 16 points and 5 assists to pace the Latin American side. Poland ensured the better start to the game. They rallied to a 22:18 lead at the first intermission. Brazil tipped off the second period on an 11:2 run to surge ahead. Soon Brazil stretched the gap to double digits late in the first half. Grochowski dropped five points in a row to drag Poland within 9 points at halftime 32:41. Poland went on a 16:0 rally to erase the deficit and pull in front. Poland maintained the advantage and entered the fourth quarter up by two points 52:50. Brazil ignited a 20:6 run midway through the fourth frame to take a 76:64 lead with just over a minute remaining. Poland never recovered and had to yield at the end. Cristiano Felicio contributed 12 points for Brazil. Bruno Irigoyen and Andre Vezaro accounted for 10 points apiece in the win. Michal Michalak responded with 14 points for Poland. Piotr Niedzwiedzki delivered 13 points and 7 boards in defeat.
