Argentina finished the preliminary round on a high note. They shocked Latvia in Valmiera tonight but still finished at the third position in preliminary round Group B. Latvia earned the second spot just behind Australia. Luciano Massarelli stepped up with 15 points to pace Argentina. The Latin American side entered the game playing aggressively in defence. They limited the hosts to only 9 points in the opening frame and recorded an 18:9 lead. Latvia managed just 9 points in the second stanza to face a 14-point deficit at halftime 18:32. The hosts started to show some signs of recovery in the third period. Latvia fired 22 points in the quarter to narrow the margin at 9-point mark. Latvia get even closer in the fourth frame but Argentina snatched a tough win at the end. Franco Giorgetti accounted for 14 points and 10 rebounds for Argentina. Marcos Delia produced 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Kaspars Vecvagars answered with 17 points for Latvia. Edmunds Dukulis had 16 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.
