Preliminary Round Day 3: RUSSIA - POLAND 70-87

Poland celebrated the second win at U19 World Championship in Latvia. They rallied past Russia to improve at 2-1 record in Group A. Polish team thus caught up with Russia in the ladder. Przemyslaw Karnowski stepped up with 23 points to lead the winners. It was a close battle in the first half. Poland grabbed a 17:9 lead midway through the first period but Russia narrowed the gap to a single point 17:18 at the break. The lead changed hands for several times throughout the second stanza before Kulagin levelled things up at 44. Russia pulled ahead 53:52 midway through the third term but Poland went on an 18:5 rally to establish a 70:58 lead with one quarter remaining. Russia never got closer than seven points throughout the last quarter as Poland marched to the second win at the tournament. Michal Michalak and Mateusz Ponitka delivered 19 points apiece in the win. Piotr Niedzwiedzki added 11 points for Poland. Sergey Karasev answered with 14 points for Russia. Andrey Loginov delivered 11 points in the loss.
